 | The Dublin City Council, at a special meeting held Tuesday evening, voted 3-1 to appoint attorney and entrepreneur Abe Gupta to fill the vacancy left by former City Councilman Eric Swallwell, who was elected to Congress in November.
Councilman Kevin Hart voted against the selection.
After the vote, Gupta was sworn into office and began serving immediately for the balance of the evening, which was in keeping with the selection guidelines adopted by the City Council at its Feb. 5 meeting.
Gupta will serve out the remainder of Congressman Swalwell's City Council term, which ends in 2014.
Gupta is an attorney and technology investor. He is a graduate of Stanford University with a degree in civil engineering, and holds a juris doctorate from the University of San Francisco School of Law. He lives in Dublin with his wife Sharvani.
A reception will be held in the Dublin Civic Center for the new councilman prior to the start of the March 5 City Council meeting. The public is invited to attend. Are you receiving Express, our free daily e-mail edition? See a sample and sign-up for Express.
