The Tri-Valley Rotary Club will hold its fourth sing-along fundraising event this evenng at a special showing of "West Side Story" at the Vine Theater in Livermore with proceeds going to support the organization's humanitarian efforts.
Gary Armstrong, club president, said that those attending the 5:30 p.m. show Sunday evening will be encouraged to sing out loud to classic Broadway music such as "Tonight", "America", "Somewhere" and "Maria".
"There's no hype or pressure," Armstrong said. "You won't have to sing like Rita Moreno or Natalie Wood. You won't even have to know the lyrics. The screen will display subtitles during the music portions of the film so even newcomers will have a chance to make some noise."
In fact, Armstrong added, "Rita Moreno has stepped up and offered one each of a personalized, autographed photo, CD of her music and a DVD of 'West Side Story' for our silent auction."
The Tri-Valley club periodically hosts fundraising events throughout the year with recent sing-along events including "Mamma Mia", "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Grease".
"This is an opportunity to socialize or relax with food and wine and maybe win a few prizes," Armstrong said.
Proceeds from the admission fees, auctions and other activities during the evening will help to provide support for local and international humanitarian services.
